Our Story
Free-Range Poultry was founded in 2013, born out of founder Walt Higgins’ frustration with an industry full of no-shows, rushed repairs, and vague estimates. After years of watching neighbors get burned by unreliable contractors, Walt decided to start a fence repair business built on transparency, punctuality, and quality craftsmanship — even if the name he landed on has nothing to do with fencing at all.
The quirky name has become something of a local icon: a memorable, slightly tongue-in-cheek brand that customers remember and trust, even after they find out there’s no poultry involved whatsoever. What started as a one-truck operation has since grown into a full crew serving residential and commercial clients across the region.
Meet the Owners
Free-Range Poultry is owned and operated by Walt Higgins and Denise Okafor, longtime business partners who met while working for a regional construction company and eventually decided to strike out on their own.
Walt, a former carpenter with over 15 years of fencing experience, leads all field operations and ensures every job meets his hands-on quality standards. Denise, who has a background in small business management, runs the day-to-day operations — scheduling, estimates, and customer relations — and has been instrumental in growing the company’s reputation for honest, no-pressure service.
Together, Walt and Denise have built Free-Range Poultry into a trusted name for fence repair, known as much for its reliability as for the double-takes its name gets from new customers.
